Thursday night at the home of the Northview Wildcats, the FHC girls freshman basketball team was able to out hustle, out rebound, and ultimately outscore their conference opponent. The Rangers left the gym with a 45 to 12 victory.

After winning the jump ball, the Rangers were able to jump start their offense. The aggressive defense of Northview held the Rangers for a while, until freshman Ally Ringler was able to get a wide open layup to start the scoring spree.

“We tried to get pumped, because we knew they were going to play a lot of good defense,” Ally said.

The Rangers were able to continue converting on offense in the second half of the opening quarter. They led twelve to zero after the first.

As the game advanced, the Ranger’s full court pressure continued to stop the Northview offense. Likewise, the Northview defense momentarily started to overwhelm the Rangers, leading to a temporary stall of the dominating performance. After regaining their momentum, the Rangers continued to score once again. They went into the locker room at the half with a convincing twenty-two to four lead.

“The girls came in completely focused,” head coach Brandon Yoder said. “We ran our plays well, we played great defense, and I felt good about it,”

After the half, the Rangers continued to dominate in all aspects of the game. With every possession they were increasing their lead. The third quarter ended with FHC ahead thirty-nine to six.

As the game was coming to a close, the Rangers still continued their relentless pursuit. The girls managed to close out the game 45 to 12.

Despite the convincing victory, Yoder says there are always things to improve on.

“We need to work on our offense,” he said. “We were a little sloppy on that end. I feel like if ours girls play basketball the way that they are capable of, we could finish out the season really strong.”
