FHC JV baseball defeats Greenville 11-1

Sophomore Cole Coughlin was on the bump for FHC, as the Rangers took on the Yellow Jackets of Greenville in a JV baseball showdown on Thursday night. Cole was untouchable, using his full arsenal of pitches. Cole only allowed one unearned run on the day resulting from an error on the defense backing him. Cole got the job done on the mound, and his teammates got the job done in the box. FHC defeated Greenville 11-1.

“We made plays when we needed too,” said Cole, who had six strikeouts through four innings. “We need to continue to work and be consistent. Sometimes, when errors occur, a snowball effect takes place, and we fall into bad patterns. Today, after an early error, we buckled down and didn’t let our mistakes affect us.

FHC was hot from the get-go and jumped on Greenville’s pitcher early. The third inning was a big one for FHC. After sitting down the Yellow Jackets in quick order, the Rangers rallied to score seven. FHC batted around, sending eleven hitters to the plate. Sophomores Brandon Kirkman, Joseph Szczepanek, and Ethan Vredenburg all picked up RBIs.

“We’ve been playing well lately, and the bats stayed hot,” said Brandon, who finished the night 3-3. “The team’s been doing good, and our expectations remain high. The ultimate goal is to finish first in the conference.”

FHC carried their momentum into the fourth. They tacked on four more, ending the game in a mercy. FHC claimed their eleventh win on the season, and their third against the Yellow Jackets.

“Our team came to play this week,” Cole said. “It was a good series for us. We were able to work on some things and critique our play.”

FHC continued their dominant play and went on to defeat Greenville 11-1 in a four inning mercy. Cole finished the complete game with ease.

“We’ve got a great group of guys who are all a lot of fun to be around,” head coach Todd Hartman said. “We continue to get better and work as a team. Aside from getting these guys ready for Varsity ball, the goal is to win games. Right now, we’re doing just that.”
