Doja Cat and SZA: two very different artists with two very different styles, voices, and lyrical complexities.

Doja Cat—who had been widely discovered over quarantine—has a more girly, rap-based voicebox with some of her most successful songs being “Say So” and “Streets” which are widely known from the social media app TikTok.

Doja Cat produces more get-up-and-dance tunes that are easily made into a TikTok dance, hence their immense popularity. SZA, on the other hand, is known for more soothing, sing-in-your-car type songs that provide undeniable emotion yet buoyancy.

Despite their contrasting manners, the two talented singers just recently came together to produce a swank new single that has reached the top charts in a jiffy.

With not a ton of new music out currently, I’ve been searching for a new song to add to my playlist. Thankfully, Doja Cat and SZA heard my cries for help and accompanied my need.

Their new song “Kiss Me More” is the exact combination that the music industry needed.

I’ve been a die-hard SZA fan ever since she came out with “Good Days,” and I am loving the new side of her portrayed in “Kiss Me More.” Although Doja Cat takes the lead for most of the three minute and twenty-nine second song, SZA’s verse is inexplicably great.

With spring coming to a close and my favorite season just around the corner, “Kiss Me More” gives me anticipation for what’s to come not just from SZA and Doja Cat, but what summer will bring as well.

In her moment, SZA sings with such optimism. The cheerful beats in the background compliment her voice perfectly as she’s doing what she loves. She hits notes no other artist can and thoroughly nails them. SZA’s voice is so smooth and angelic even in a song this sanguine and quick, making me adore her talents even more than before.

And Doja Cat has an alternative way of rapping that immediately supplies me with serotonin. Her talent allows her to sing beautiful notes and then dive right into fast, complex rapping lyrics that make me want to sing.

Their talents in combination with the positive tunes in the background make for a killer summer song. With spring coming to a close and my favorite season just around the corner, “Kiss Me More” gives me anticipation for what’s to come not just from SZA and Doja Cat, but what summer itself will bring as well.

My music taste is constantly everchanging, and the seasons of the year definitely play a part in that fact. Fall calls for more gloomy, slow-paced songs to match the changing leaves while spring is for more happiness and enthusiasm within my playlists. And summer—the best season—is where my music peaks. To me, summer means more colorful, overjoyed songs that exemplify the bliss I have during summertime, and “Kiss Me More” falls perfectly into that essential category.

I love seeing an iconic collaboration between two prosperous artists because it’s always either a hit or miss—there’s no in-between. The chemistry between a duo is so very important in order to generate a successful song, and Doja Cat and SZA give me all that I long for in a duet throughout the duration of “Kiss Me More.”
