As the majestic season of winter approaches, and the heavy snow takes over the red-and-orange-covered trees, this becomes one of the first indicators that it is time to transition from cute fall outfits to a more winter-suited closet. Although many fashion enthusiasts complain that winter fashion is the worst as most outfits are ruined with a large puffer coat, there are various ways to turn a boring puffer coat into a stylish piece of clothing with just these few accessories.
As the winter snow begins to make its entry, the beloved season of throwing on random mismatched sandals and bikinis slowly turns into wearing big, puffy coats and winter boots. Fuzzy boots make for a perfect outfit, but throughout the snowy season, they will also keep you the warmest during the frigid air of the winter. From the early 2000s to the present day, UGG boots have made a clear statement in winter fashion to teens and adults across the globe. Though they may not serve as the most functional pair of boots during the winter, they are undoubtedly the most fashionable and comfortable pair. Whether it’s the Bailey boots paired with a cute pair of pastel pink bows or simply the Ultra Minis paired with a pair of cream leg warmers, UGG makes each variation of their shoes perfect for winter fashion. However, there is a downside to these shoes. They tend to grow damaged quickly with any contact with water, and even though it can be an easy complication to fix, it is still time-consuming and inconvenient. Hydro-phobic boots that are both stylish and functional are perfect for the winter, the best type being Doc Martens. As an owner of these shoes, I will admit they are the best boots to pair with jeans and maintain warmth within the lower body when spending time outdoors in the frigid winter air. Not only that, but they are very functional and can be styled in so many different ways. My personal favorite is with a pair of flared jeans or with leg warmers and tights; however, they can be personalized to pair with your style.
Fashionable scarves are a must-have for any girl’s winter wardrobe. They make the perfect accessory, pairing beautifully with a cozy winter beanie to provide both style and warmth. While I prefer the luxurious look of plaid scarves, solid colors like black or grey can also complement basic outfits nicely. A cozy scarf pairs perfectly with either earmuffs or a beanie to keep your head warm and look stylish. Brands such as Urban Outfitters and Edikted hold countless options and patterns for fashionable earmuffs, providing the perfect options to pair each winter-approved outfit with cute earmuffs. Beanies and basic winter hats are another perfect accessory suited for people who prefer to cover the entirety of their heads rather than just their ears. Basic colored beanies suit most winter fashion outfits as they aren’t too distracting and don’t stand out too much. I usually recommend thrifting as the ideal mechanism to find cute winter accessories. However, it would not be my first choice as items worn on the head are more prone to attracting lice and grow out of shape much quicker than most second-hand clothing. Instead, I recommend cheaper options like Amazon or even checking Depop for brand-new or unused options.
Finally, cozy grandpa sweaters, preferably thrifted, make for the perfect outfit staple during the winter season. When I make my way into local Goodwills and other thrift stores around my area, during the colder months of the year, I always find myself heading straight to the sweater and pullover section. Thrift stores often provide much cheaper and more unique sweater options, making it much more unlikely that you will find yourself wearing the same patterned sweater as almost every teenage girl around you. Also, while hunting for those cozy winter sweaters, look out for puffy coats to pair perfectly while out and about in the snowy weather.
Even though winter fashion may seem difficult to style (and overly expensive), there are many ways to work around a tight budget and curate the perfect winter wardrobe for this snowy season.
