Spring break at FHC is spent in many different ways, from adventurous hiking trips on the tropical islands of Hawaii to relaxing cruises far from the cold weather, deep in the ocean. Every student has their plans, and they’re eagerly counting down the days until the break.

As the winter season grows colder each day, students at FHC cannot wait for a break from their usual school routines and most importantly, the tropical climate of their exotic vacations.
Spring break is one of the most beloved holidays at FHC. Although winter break might be a week longer, most students prefer the warmer climate of their long-awaited vacations over the frigid Michigan winter.
For some vacationers at the high school, it’s tradition to travel across the sea on a luxurious cruise. Senior Sawyer Jordan is ecstatic to spend his spring break on a cruise ship, and he is more than excited to share his experience with some of his best friends.
“I’m excited for spring break because I’m going on a cruise with all of my good friends, and we’re going to have a lot of fun,” Sawyer said. “I have only been on a cruise once before, and although it was a great time then, I’m super excited this time, especially because we will be taking stops at different places and islands around the ocean.”
However, for this cruise trip, Sawyer is not only relaxing on the surface of the ocean water afloat on a tropical cruise but also looking forward to visiting and exploring the islands of the Dominican Republic and the beloved tropical Bahamas.
“Not only are we going on a cruise, though, we are going to other islands such as the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and St. Thomas,” Sawyer said. “It will be fun to leave the house and do something new, explore the islands, and most importantly, be with my best friends and family.”
Although cruise trips can be some of the best, sophomore Ella Haughey cannot wait to spend her spring break in Florida. For her, visiting Orlando and staying in a vacation home with some of her favorite people is a tradition. Ella is counting down the minutes to spend her spring break with her family, and as a new addition to the annual trip, she is thrilled to spend it with one of her best friends, sophomore Emma Krivickas.
“I’m going to a city near Orlando, Florida, for spring break this year and looking forward to it because I’m going with my family and, most excitingly, with my best friend,” Ella said. “We are going to swim as much as we can before returning to the cold-weathered Michigan, and we will have a great time.”
Last spring break, Ella’s family went on an adventurous journey to Arizona instead of her usual beachside getaways. While that trip was filled with excitement and unforgettable moments, Ella’s heart is set on the sun-soaked shores of Florida, and she can’t wait to feel the sand between her toes once more.
“Each of my past spring breaks that I’ve gone on have been tropical and usually on the beach, and I’m excited to stay on the beach once again,” Ella said. “Last spring break, I went to Sedona, Arizona, which was different from the past since it wasn’t a beach. However, it was still enjoyable, and I can’t wait to return to Florida.”
Spring break is the perfect break in the middle of the longest second semester of the year, as everyone enjoys spending their time in the warm tropical climates, soaking up the sun to bring back to gloomy Michigan with them as soon as they return.
Sophomore Sophie Luyckx cannot wait to spend her spring break on the greatest tropical island southwest of the U.S. mainland: Hawaii. Spring break itself is exciting enough as it is. Having a long-awaited break from constantly spending time with the same teachers and peers every day, with repetitive homework assignments, can provide students with a short break from reality to rest their brains without forgetting everything they have learned before they come back. Sophie cannot wait to go on spring break this year, specifically because she gets to spend it with one of her best friends.
“For spring break, I’m going to Hawaii with my best friend [sophomore] Jackee Fisher. Her parents are bringing her to Hawaii for spring break since it’s her sixteenth birthday.” Sophie said. “I’m so excited. I’ve never been to Hawaii before, and I am most excited to spend spring break on the island with my best friend.”
Hawaii is an island like no other. From unbeatable outdoor activities to astonishing outdoor scenery, it is one of the most beautiful vacation destinations, especially for spring break. The mainland is not only beautiful, but the islands surrounding it are beautiful as well. Sophie cannot wait to explore the other Hawaiian islands; although they are not recognized as often, they are equally as beautiful and important as the largest island.
“We are going to Honolulu, then visiting two other islands not too far from there. I’m so excited to explore the ocean, as I usually go on road trips; this will be such a cool experience for me, and I can’t wait to spend it with my best friend and her family,” Sophie said.
