On most Tuesday nights, I’m either working or doing homework. Nevertheless, last Tuesday night, my sister and I traveled for two and a half hours, endured a 30-minute wait in the cold rain, and navigated through crowds to attend Alex Warren’s concert as part of the Cheaper Than Therapy Tour.
I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of Warren, but my sister was so ecstatic when tickets came out, so she bought us both tickets. Let me tell you, it was so worth the drive and the waiting in the rain.
The tour began with the opener, Warren’s best friend, Michael Sanzone. While I, unfortunately, didn’t know any of Sanzone’s songs, I still thoroughly enjoyed listening to his set. His voice was genuinely beautiful, and I’m definitely going to be adding some of his songs to my playlists.
The best thing about smaller artists is that they interact more with the audience. While Sanzone was talking between two of his songs, Warren ran on stage, punched him in the arm, and ran back off. Small moments like that are what made me enjoy this concert so much.
Warren entered the stage to his song “Burning Down,” which is one of his more popular songs. The first thing that I noticed was that his live voice sounds almost identical to how it sounds through Spotify or social media. He has an incredibly distinct voice, and I was somewhat worried that it would sound different, but it was identical.
Between almost every song, Warren made sure to converse with the audience. He made jokes, he read signs, and he took the time to communicate with different areas of the crowd. This was one of my favorite parts of the concert.
Warren also played two different unreleased songs for us. One of them, “Bloodline,” has been teased many times on social media. The second one he sang had never been teased on social media before, so it was an incredibly exciting surprise.
At the end of the concert, he played two of his most popular songs: “The Ordinary” and then, for the encore, “Carry You Home.” While he was singing “The Ordinary,” it was time for the confetti. While the confetti was just simple but large white squares, there was still so much of it, and everyone was so excited to get some. There was more than enough confetti for everyone to collect. After “Carry You Home,” I grabbed a handful of confetti for my sister and me, and we got in the incredibly long merchandise line.
We didn’t want to get in the merch line before the show because we had General Admission tickets, so we wanted to get the best spot that we could. While the line after was so long, once we got to the merch stand, nothing was sold out. There were options for Sanzone’s merch, and there was a wide selection of Warren’s merch. There were many things, such as t-shirts, a crewneck, a sweatshirt, a hat, and a tote bag, and it was all very reasonably priced.
While I’m not a big Warren fan, the whole show was so worth the cold and the rain. My sister and I both had an incredible time laughing, cheering, and singing along. I would definitely go again.
