Everyone has their comfort show(s). Mine is Gilmore Girls. I have watched it repeatedly. I fall asleep to a new episode every night. I love Gilmore Girls so much, and I know all of the seasons by heart. I definitely have my favorites and least favorites, though. All seven seasons of the show are great, but some are better than others.
1. Season Three
The third season of Gilmore Girls has to be my favorite. I think it is absolute perfection, and so is the overall vibe of the season. I also love the drama of Rory and her boyfriends (Dean and Jess). That whole trope is so perfect. Season three, in my opinion, is the last of the good seasons in this show. Rory is still in high school, and the whole college plot has not begun yet.
2. Season One
Of course, the first season of Gilmore Girls has to be one of my favorites. The nostalgia of season one brings you back. Rory and Lorelai’s relationship is at a peak in this season, and the whole fall and winter aesthetic of it allows me to reminisce on the past. Season one is an original, where Rory remains a likable character.
3. Season Two
The second season is when Rory is a junior in high school, and this one is ranked third for many different reasons. My favorite seasons are Rory’s high school days. This was a season of growth for Rory, and it also showed some valuable lessons in this season about working hard and not doing things just because others want you to. Overall, it is an entertaining and compelling season, like the other two.
4. Season Four
The start of Rory’s college days was the start of her downfall. Season four still had a little bit of Rory’s high school personality, but the switch in everything during this season was a big change for the show. Her college days introduced new characters and got rid of other favorable ones, too. I still think this season was good because the change of the storyline was entertaining, but eventually it became so different that it no longer felt like the nostalgic seasons.
5. Season Five
Season five was the season where things started to change too much, and some characters became very unlikeable. They even did some out-of-character things. The last episode of the season threw things so far off for Rory and Lorelai’s relationship, and overall, the whole character of Rory.
6. Season Six and Seven
For my last ranking, I have to say that six and seven are tied in being equally bad. These last seasons of Gilmore Girls were not nearly as good as how it started. Rory became a completely different character than she was in the beginning, and not in a good way. One of the major points of the Gilmore Girls was to show the beautiful relationship between a daughter and mother, and seasons six and seven (mostly six) trashed their relationship completely. Therefore, seasons six and seven take the win for the worst seasons.
Overall, I would not say that any of the Gilmore Girls seasons are necessarily bad, but as the show went on, the seasons did get worse and worse. The first few seasons were the prime of the show, and the last few seasons were more of a drag to keep it going and finish it off.
