FHC finds themselves in sole possession of the conference lead after a 3-0 start to their season. Lowell, Greenville, Northview and Ottawa Hills all added a loss to their records, while FHN and Cedar Springs were the only other two teams to find wins.
Ottawa Hills Bengals at Forest Hills Central Rangers: 58-14
FHC won big over a struggling Ottawa Hills team at home on community tailgate night. Full coverage of this game can be found in “Rangers blast Ottawa Hills 58-14 to improve to 3-0 on the season.”
East Grand Rapids Pioneers at Lowell Red Arrows: 16-14
The turnover bug got to the Red Arrows Friday night as the turned the ball over a total of five times to the Pioneers. A fumble recovery and four interceptions thrown by Lowell quarterback David Kruse put the Red Arrows into a steep hole. Despite the brutal offensive performance, Lowell actually had a 14-13 lead late in the fourth quarter. EGR put in a 19 yard field goal to retake the lead 16-14. Senior cornerback Marty Ward picked off Kruse to keep Lowell out of scoring territory and break Red Arrow hearts in Lowell’s home stadium.
Greenville Yellow Jackets at Cedar Springs Red Hawks: 7-48
Cedar Springs came out with a largely convincing win over Greenville at home, helping them improve to 2-1 on the season. Cedar has now put two huge wins together in a row and is proving to be a force in the OK white. They have an easier week this week against an 0-3 Northview team and will need to win to continue to jockey for position towards the top of the white. Greenville was on the other side of this punishing blow, putting them at 2-1 overall, but with some skepticism about their team. Cedar was Greenville’s first challenge on the season and they not only did not handle them well, they hardly handled them at all.
Northview Wildcats at Forest Hills Northern Huskies: 35-52
FHN found the right time to steal a win in the white as they won a shootout with the Wildcats on Friday. The Huskies, however, don’t skip a beat with their tough schedule as the have the high flying Falcons of East Kentwood next week. Northview will be challenged once again with Cedar Springs coming to town.
