College Football Blog Week 2 Recap and Week 3 predictions by FHC Sports Report Staff

Another thrilling College Football week passes by and may have been the week with the most ranked teams facing off against each other. Some of the most exciting games included Oklahoma defeating Ohio State, Georgia barely toppling Notre Dame, and Clemson rallying late to beat Auburn. Here are the staff standings after week 2.

Week 2 in Review

Clemson vs Auburn: The battle of the Tigers was more of a defensive showdown of two fundamentally sound football teams. The Auburn Tigers came out strong getting the first 6 points on the board and were looking to defeat the reigning national champs in Death Valley. But Kelly Bryant and the Clemson offense came out strong after scoring late in the first half and then scoring one more time in the second half to put the game away. Clemson won 14-6.

Georgia vs Notre Dame: The Georgia Bulldogs looked very strong earning a 20-19 victory in South Bend. These two teams were firing back and forth the entire game, and it really came down to who wanted it more. Notre Dame won the passing game by 70 yards, but Nick Chubb and the Bulldogs were the keys to success, outrunning the Irish by a whopping 130 yards.

Oklahoma vs Ohio State: This was the scenario not a lot of people thought would happen. The Oklahoma Sooners took down the Ohio State Buckeyes 31-16 in front of a very hostile crowd in Columbus. It was a battle of two sure to be Heisman trophy contenders and future NFL quarterbacks featuring JT Barrett and Baker Mayfield. Baker proved undoubtedly he was the better player throwing for 386 yards and 3 touchdowns compared to JT’s 183 yards. If you didn’t watch the game, those two stats alone should tell you what kind of game it was.

Week 3 Preview

3 Clemson vs 14 Louisville (Jessica): This is by far the game everyone is looking forward to Saturday night. Last year Heisman winner and Louisville QB Lamar Jackson looks to continue his hot streak and hopes to be another top contender for the Heisman this year. Lamar put up 393 yards and 3 touchdowns against North Carolina last week. Meanwhile the defending national champion Clemson Tigers, coming off a big but close win against Auburn last week, look to try and grab that number 1 overall spot overall with star QB Kelly Bryant and their tough defense.

Predictions:

Nick- 42 – 35 Clem

Tobey- 24-20 Clemson

Tommy- 21-17 Clemson

Jake- 27-23 Clemson

Jessica- 33-27 Clemson

Texas vs 4 USC (Jacob): This is a big time Pac-12 Big-12 matchup in Pasadena. The number 4 Trojans are looking to win the game in a big way against one of the long time great teams in Texas. I would look for in this matchup two top QB’s in the country going at it. Sam Darnold on USC is one of the front runners for the heisman this year and is looking to make a statement this week after having decent games the past two weeks. The Trojans offense is going to be to much for the Longhorns defense to handle with Sam Darnold and Ronald Jones ll running up the score in this long time rivalry. USC has had some tough opening games and have run up the score on their opponents, I don’t think they are afraid to do it against a big time rival.

Predictions:

Nick- 21 – 17 USC

Tobey- 42-14 USC

Tommy- 28-10 USC

Jake- 38-18 USC

Jessica- 44- 26 USC

23 Tennessee vs 24 Florida (Tommy): This SEC rivalry between the Volunteers and the Gators may be the most exciting encounter between these two. This is not only a battle for bragging rights, but a battle to stay in the top 25. Tennessee had a convincing victory over Indiana State while Florida’s game was cancelled due to the danger of hurricane Irma. The Volunteers and QB Quinn Dormady hope to put up a lot of points against a very good Florida defense. On the other hand, Florida, who only scored 3 offensive points against Michigan, hope to turn things around with WR Brandon Powell. Tennessee’s defense hasn’t been looking impressive enough to seal the deal against the Gators, but the Vols should be walking out with a W in Gainesville

Predictions:

Nick- 28 – 13 Tenn

Tobey- 27-13 Tenn

Tommy- 24-10 Tenn.

Jake- 24-13 Tenn.

Jessica- 30-18 Tenn.

9 Oklahoma State vs Pitt (Tobey): Number 9 Oklahoma state has been looking hot lately, but Pitt is a dangerous team itself. Coming into the game Oklahoma State is 2-0 while Pitt is 1-1. The big key in the this game will be the Ok State’s Quarterback Mason Rudolph who is on the verge of a record breaking career. I think Oklahoma state’s offense is too much for Pitt to handle. Pitt will not go away but in the end Oklahoma state will cruise to a somewhat easy win.

Predictions:

Nick- 31 – 21 osu

Tobey- 31-10 OSU

Tommy- 35-17 OSU

Jake- 28-17 OSU

Jessica- 34-23 OSU

Air Force vs 7 Michigan (Nick): Even though Michigan has an undefeated record, their wins are not very impressive. They were sloppy and seemed to not be their best in the game against Cincinnati. If they play the same way they have been this game could be interesting. If Wilton Speight keeps throwing interceptions and their running backs keep losing the ball Air Force may have a chance. Air Force proved they could score the ball in big numbers after their week one win against VMI. A game they won 62-0. The game is at 12 in the Big House.`

Predictions:

Nick- 4 – 2 Air Force

Tobey- 38-6 Mich

Tommy- 42-17 Michigan

Jake- 35-10 Michigan

Jessica- 40-16 Michigan
