Varsity hockey suffers another loss in Midland, falling 4-1 to H.H. Dow

Juniors Cole Ott and Carl Mielock performed very well despite the team’s fifth straight loss against H.H. Dow Saturday night in Midland, with a score of 4-1. Cole scored the only Ranger goal in the second period and Carl had some key saves that prevented the opponent from earning even more goals. The Rangers knew they were an underdog against a very strong H.H. Dow team in this game, so their goal was to get a very fast tempo early on.

The first period was overall good, despite a costly mistake that led to a goal for H.H. Dow early on. In the second period, the Rangers generated a lot more offense than they have in the past couple games. Cole had a key shorthanded goal in the second period, which proved to be huge for FHC’s confidence and energy. H.H. Dow tacked on one more goal, setting the score at 2-1 at the end of the second. In the third period, Dow scored once again. The Rangers decided to pull Carl to give themselves a man-up advantage. Unfortunately, that did not work, as H.H. Dow defeated the Rangers by a final score of 4-1.

Even though the Rangers are 0-5, this could be a turning point for this team. FHC showed strength throughout all three periods of this past game. They are still at the bottom of the OK White Conference, and they have a huge matchup on Friday they will need to work hard to prepare for. The Rangers will square off against an extremely good St. Francis De Sales team from Toledo, Ohio. St. Francis is the state runner-up last year for the state of Ohio, and they have a lot of returning players this year. It is going to be a very exciting game on Friday at Patterson Ice Arena.
