Girls JV basketball finishes 25-20, just short of a victory over East Kentwood

Last night’s battle between the FHC girls JV basketball team and the East Kentwood Falcons was a primarily defensive game. The Rangers were just shy of a victory ending the game with a 25-20 loss. Despite the loss, the Rangers fought the battle with extreme intensity all while missing three key players.

East Kentwood got a big lead early in the first quarter resulting from turnovers on the Rangers’ side. Quickly, the Rangers closed down the gap and finished the half 13-6. Going into the third quarter the Falcons pressured the Rangers in a man-to-man defense that helped them gain a 22-12 lead going into the fourth. With eight minutes left in the game, the Rangers cut the scoreboard gap to two but could not convert a layup to come out victorious in the game.

Leading the Rangers on the scoreboard were Katy Majick with six points and tied with 4 points were freshman Katie Tellier and sophomore Alex Vaughn-Earvin. Alex, a point guard, was also a star defender, disrupting the Falcons offense and creating turnovers. Katy made several big shots that kept the Rangers in the game.

Rangers still have yet to compete in a conference game and are continuing to prepare week by week by focusing on half court execution and boxing out. Overall, the girls JV record is 0-2 going into their next non-conference game in Grand Haven on Tuesday, December 12.
