Boys varsity hockey clinches a 3-2 overtime win against Lowell-Caledonia

The varsity hockey team has found a groove, as they defeated Lowell-Caledonia 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at Patterson Ice Center. Seniors Charlie Brewer and Jacob Demeter continued to lead the charge for this young Ranger team, as the two combined for all three goals. Jacob led the team in scoring with two out of the three goals. Freshman Jacob Campbell was also key for the Rangers from an energy standpoint, as he worked hard all three periods.

The first period went well for the Rangers, as they out shot Lowell-Caledonia 15-9, as the two teams were tied at zero going into the second period. Lowell-Caledonia scored first at the beginning of the second period and continued to have the momentum throughout the first couple moments. That’s when Jacob Demeter put the Rangers on the board, which unfortunately was followed up by another goal by Lowell-Caledonia to end a back and forth period with a score of 2-1. In the third period, neither team seemed to be able to find the back of the net and it didn’t look good for the Rangers. But then Charlie Brewer put the puck in the back of the net with six seconds remaining and forced overtime. Jacob Demeter put in the game-winner for the Rangers two minutes into OT, giving them a much-needed win.

This was another big win for the Rangers, putting them at 3-2-1 in conference play. The Rangers are now two games back from a tie with Grandville for first place in the OK White. FHC will go on the road to Reeths-Puffer for another showdown Wednesday night. The last time these two met, Reeths-Puffer came back from an early deficit to score three unanswered goals in the third period, but FHC managed to score one more to put the Rockets away and come out victorious. It will be interesting to see how these two teams will play against each other now that they have both improved since their last showdown.
