Girls JV basketball falls to Northview 31-30 in a close game

This past Tuesday, the girls JV basketball team battled the Northview Wildcats in its first conference matchup of the season. The Rangers were just shy of a victory, ending the game with a 31-30 loss.

In the beginning of the game, the Wildcats took advantage of the Rangers’ slow offense and jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter. Continuing this momentum, the Wildcats finished the half leading 16-8. Going into the second half, the Rangers came out of the locker room with a high intensity and managed to tie the game with only a couple minutes remaining in the third quarter.

With only a few turnovers, FHC had a stronger offense execution that allowed them to take control of the scoreboard in the second half. The rest of the fourth quarter went back and forth in terms of who was winning, but the Wildcats managed to secure the victory in the last 14 seconds of the game.

Leading scorer for the Rangers was freshman Brittney Probst with 16 points. Standing out on defense and controlling the outcome of the game were sophomores Alex Vaughn-Earvin and Katie Willemin. Brittney’s outstanding offense execution and Alex and Katie’s strong defense is what allowed the Rangers to make their comeback in the second half.

The next game for the girls JV basketball team will be Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 at home against Greenville. This will be the Rangers’ second conference matchup.
