Girls varsity soccer defeats Portage Central 3-1

The Lady Rangers took on the Portage Central Mustangs last night in their last regular-season game. The Rangers were looking to win this game in order to end the season 15-2, and they were able to pull out a 3-1 win.

The first half started off rough for the Rangers and they went into the locker room down 0-1. However, they turned themselves around in the second half and came out as a completely different team. Junior Ashley Ward scored the first goal for the Rangers off a cross from senior Rylee Hrnyak. Then freshman Whittney Currie scored a banger shot in the top left hand corner of the goal to put the Rangers up 2-1. Ashley was able to score again in the last minutes of the game and secure the Rangers’ fifth straight win.

The Rangers’ defensive line really stepped it up last night, with junior Chloe Grooters and senior Bree Probst being bright spots in leading the back line and communicating throughout the whole game. Whittney and sophomore Ali Fransisco also helped the Rangers last night by being key in connections around midfield.

This win concluded the Rangers’ season, and their first district game is next Tuesday against Wyoming. The Rangers ended their season 15-2 and are looking to go far in the upcoming playoffs.
