Gretchen Shull

Name: Gretchen Shull

Grade: 12

Role: Ramona Quimby

1. What are you most excited about?

“I’m really excited to perform in my first play. The cast has worked hard to put on the best show we can and I’m really excited to show it to my friends and family.”

2. What makes you fit your role so well?

“Ramona and I are very alike! We both like to be silly and like to make other people laugh. We really enjoy helping people, even though we sometimes screw up. Ramona and I both love finding the fun and the joy in our lives.”

3. What is your favorite thing about being involved in the play?

“My favorite thing is all the people in theater. The cast is so nice and we all mesh really well together. The crew is also so great! I love practicing with everybody cause we all get to laugh and be together.”

4. What is the cast dynamic and relationship like?

“The cast dynamic is amazing. I love the cast of Ramona Quimby. The Quimby family actually feels like a family whenever we are doing scenes and the cast all has each other’s backs. Everybody is so dedicated to their character and it’s really cool to see all of the characters perfectly mix together onstage.”

5. What is your favorite part about your role?

“I love being able to let loose and have fun onstage. A big thing for me is being able to not even think about what I’m doing or if it’s wrong. I love that I’m able to make discoveries about a scene even if we’ve done it over and over and I love being able to find the child in me and let her run around.”

6. What have been some difficulties with your role or in rehearsal?

“It took me a little bit of time to get all of my lines completely memorized. Sometimes I knew them but got flipped up on the order. We also change around blocking so sometimes it was hard to remember which version we went with.”

7. How has this experience affected you and your high school experience?

“Especially with this being the first play I’ve been in, I’m glad that I get to experience the work that it takes to pull off a play. I also am very glad that I was on the crew side of the play last year so I can also appreciate all the things that the crew does for the cast.”

8. What should audiences be excited about?

“The audience should be excited to see a show about growing up, which we all have experienced, and all the silly and difficult things that come with it. The show is really great and the people in it are amazing”
