Yesterday, the varsity wrestling team competed in the Howell Herm Wilkinson Classic. The Rangers of Forest Hills Central placed fourteenth out of 27 teams and ended with a final score of 40.0. The outing ended with a total of 6 pins for the Rangers. Although the team may have placed lower than anticipated, some individuals were able to place highly.
Three deserving wrestlers placed for FHC; sophomore Caden Jacobs placed third at 119 lbs, junior Brendan Guitar placed fifth at 285 lbs, and senior Vaughn Rodriguez placed eighth at 112 lbs. The wrestlers who won at least one match were senior John Samsell at 145, junior Tommy Hendricks at 160, junior Wyatt Engler at 171, sophomore Isaac Gurley at 145, and sophomore Robby Fraizer at 152.
The team got a grasp of what the season would look like after this competition, and head coach Brad Anderson has high hopes for the season after the outing. The wrestling team will compete again on Saturday for its first home match of the season.
“We have a young, fairly inexperienced crew, so we have a lot of room for growth,” Anderson said. “They have a will to prepare and hopefully we can harness that, build some champions, and win a few dual [meets].”
