Boys JV basketball edges out Greenville 62-56
After a tough loss in the conference opener against the Northview Wildcats, the boys JV basketball team took the floor against the Greenville Yellow Jackets and earned a 62-56 victory last night. Sophomore Peyton Bush led the team in scoring with 17 points off the bench. Sophomore Chris Battiste also provided a monster all-around game for FHC and earned a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 blocks.
In the first half, Greenville stuck within 5 and 7 points behind FHC by getting a lot of contested drives to the paint and giving the ball to their big center. While their center only finished with 5 points in the first half, he was able to get 17 more points in the second half. Despite the struggles defending the Greenville big man, sophomore Matthew Mahoney grabbed 9 rebounds, which was crucial late in the game. A stretch of 6 free throws in a row from Peyton Bush would shut the door on the Yellow Jackets’ run, and FHC took the win 62-56.
This win puts the Rangers at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the OK White conference. The next test for FHC will be against Cedar Springs at home this Thursday. If the Rangers can move the ball around well in Cedar’s zone defense, along with knocking down shots early in the game to put the Red Hawks away early, look for another win from FHC in conference play.
