After regulation ended 0-0, junior Cole Beaufait netted the game-winning goal in a shootout, giving the Rangers the overtime win against the Plymouth Wildcats. Not only did the hockey team win on Saturday, but it also had a solid 2-0 win on Friday over the Midland Dow Chargers.

On Friday, the Rangers faced Midland Dow, a very respectable team on the east side of the state. Senior Carl Mielock stayed strong in net, recording 22 saves in the game and a save percentage of 1.000 while earning a shutout. Junior defenders Ryan Jeffreys and Hayden Sarjeant were resilient as always, preventing dangerous attacks from reaching Carl. While the Ranger offense only had 12 shots on goal, FHC was productive with its shots to score twice in the first period.

Sophomore Mason Kelly had the first goal off of assists from juniors Peter Bardelli and Hayden Sarjeant. With a couple minutes to go in the first, Peter doubled the lead, assisted by Mason and Hayden. After that, the defense remained strong to keep the score the same throughout the rest of the game.

The next day, FHC matched up against Plymouth High School. Plymouth had a lot of shots on net, forcing Carl into 23 saves. While the defense stayed strong, the Ranger offense couldn’t get much done. After regulation ended in a 0-0 tie, the teams went straight to a shootout. Mason Kelly missed the first shot, as it was saved. Cole Beaufait buried the second shot, giving the Rangers the 1-0 lead. All of the Plymouth shots failed to find the back of the net, and the game ended in a 1-0 shootout win.

These wins put FHC’s record to 16-5-1. The next games for the Rangers are this weekend when the hockey team participates in the Public School Showcase on Friday and Saturday. FHC will be taking on Saline and Ann Arbor Skyline, two major Division 1 opponents, at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea.
