This past weekend, the Forest Hills Gymnastics team competed in its Regional meet. There were 13 other teams there, and only the top three would move on to the next round for the State Championship. The team was able to secure third place by .2 points and earn a spot in the next round of competition.

Junior Hannah Walters was a key piece of the team’s victory and placed in the top ten in two out of the four events. In the vault event, Hannah scored an 8.55 and had the third-highest score on the team. During her bars event, she placed eighth overall with a very good score of 8.15. Then in the beam event, Hannah placed sixth overall and scored an 8.675. During her last event—the floor—Hannah received a score of 8.675 yet again.

Another huge contributor to the team’s success was junior Olivia Jeong. Olivia placed in the top ten in one of the four events and had a very successful meet overall. The floor event was her highest-scoring event of the night, as she went on to score a 9.1 and place sixth overall. In the vault event, she scored an 8.6 and received the second-highest vault score on the team. During the bars event Olivia scored a 7.625, and in the final event, the beam, she scored a 7.925.

The team will compete one last time this season at the MHSAA Gymnastics State Championship this Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9.
