Coming off a sweep and then a two-week hiatus, boys freshman baseball went scoreless at home against Hudsonville. Losing 8-0, the bats never got hot, and the pitching couldn’t match Hudsonville. While Hudsonville is a solid team, the Rangers expected more after a sweep of Greenville.
Pitching for the Rangers was freshman Josh Smith; he allowed 6 hits and 6 runs over 3 innings. Freshman Joe Robertson threw 2 innings in relief and let up 2 runs. While the pitching wasn’t having a great game, the defense wasn’t perfect either, however, these weren’t the only reasons for the 8 run loss. Only 3 Rangers were able to get hits on Monday: freshmen Cole Hysong, Ivan Wheland, and Josh.
Although the Rangers couldn’t stop the Division 1 Hudsonville Eagles, they still have high hopes for the season; they play next against Greenville at home on Wednesday.
