JV softball struggles against Unity Christian

Despite freshman Alyssa Wierenga going 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs in game one, the JV softball team struggled against a dominant Unity Christian squad for two big losses last night.

It took the Crusaders just five innings in the first game to put up 13 runs. Sophomore Bela Gonzalez pitched to surrender 9 hits with 4 walks and 1 strikeout. The defense struggled greatly, as FHC committed 6 very costly errors.

Bela also picked up a base hit, and freshman Lyra Vandeberg went .500 at the plate. Junior Anna Breaugh was able to do her job to help out the team, as she laid down a solid bunt and picked up an RBI. The Rangers, unfortunately, were no match for the hot bats of Unity Christian, and FHC lost 13-3 in five innings.

The second game didn’t go much better, as the Crusaders were able to win this one 17-2 in four innings.

Alyssa pitched in this one to earn 1 strikeout and give up a walk, while Unity Christian tallied 16 hits. The defense again struggled, this time committing 5 errors in the field. Junior Maddy Wahl and sophomore Abby Davis each went 1-2 at the plate, while freshman Leanna Clark went 1-1 in the second game.

The Rangers will look to flush these two non-conference games and build on their 4-6 (4-3) record, as they go on the road today for a single conference game with Greenville.
