This Saturday, the boys varsity tennis team played in its first quad of the season. The team, led by head coach Dan Bolhouse, played against Brother Rice, Portage Central, and Loy Norrix. They managed to dominate Portage and Loy Norrix but had a tougher time against the prestigious program of Brother Rice.

One doubles, which consists of junior Jeremy James and senior Ali Azeem, played extremely well against Brother Rice and won their match after being tied. This was a huge win for FHC, as it would start them off hot against a very talented doubles team. Two and four doubles also won against Brother Rice, giving Central a huge advantage. The Rangers’ singles, however, all lost, which was crucial for the Warriors and gave them the win 5-3.

At one singles, Nick Sjolin came up huge for the Rangers as he carried the sweep against the Mustangs of Portage Central. Nick had one of the most difficult matches of the day but managed to pull off a big win against one of the best singles players in the state. This undefeated pro set was much needed after the loss to Brother Rice, and it gave Central a boost of energy for the upcoming matches against Loy Norrix.

The guys came together to put up some high scores in order to get the second win of the day. At two doubles, junior Chris Battiste and senior Advith Reddy were too quick for their opponent, as was senior Suchir Gupta at two singles. These two powerhouses had a very impressive first day and will be needed in order for the Rangers to conquer some of the upcoming teams.

FHC swept Loy Norrix 8-0 and ended the day 2-1, completing an overall successful first weekend. FHC’s next game is the Elliot Pearce Invitational against multiple opponents at home on Monday, August 19 at 9 AM.
