Boys varsity tennis placed first in the Rockford quad on Saturday, beating out some of the top teams in the area.

Freshman Sammy Yin and senior Nick Sjolin won all three of their matches in one and two singles, respectively. These two have been the top two singles players for the entire season and continued to show that today while they swept through their opponents.

Four singles freshman Chris Shang also won all three of his matches. He played outstanding matches against St Joseph and Grand Rapids Christian and eventually pulled out his third win of the day against the Rockford Rams.

One doubles duo of junior Jeremy James and senior Ali Azeem won two of their three matches and took second against Rockford. Alongside them was the junior tandem of Nick Stockenauer and Ben Koning, who also tied for second in four doubles.

“Overall, we had a great day,” said head coach Dan Bolhouse. “The boys have improved a lot, and I’m excited for the remainder of the season.”

The Rangers are now clearly a dominating team in the area and face off at Holland Public on Thursday, September 26 at 4 pm.
