Ten girls participated in the MISCA meet this year, swimming against some very challenging competition. It was a very productive meet with sophomore Maggie Hier, junior Sarah Chesner, senior Sarah Schenck, junior Emily Johnson, and the 400-yard relay team all earning their state cuts, with Emily getting her state cut in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.
The third event of the meet was the 200-yard individual medley relay. This was the first strong personal performance of the meet, with Sarah securing 19th place with a time of 2:16.96. This time was fast enough to secure a spot in the state meet. Emily followed this up with a state cut performance in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.18.
Several more races went by with no amazing performances until the 100-yard backstroke, where both junior Olivia Hooper and Sarah got state cuts with an impressive performance from Maggie. Olivia took an amazing sixth place with a time of 59.41. Maggie Hier took 16th with a time of 1:01.32 and Sarah Chesner took 24th with a time of 1:02.86.
The Rangers continued to finish the meet strong with the 200-yard breaststroke. Jessica Doyel delivered a strong 15th place finish with her time of 1:09.60. Emily followed very close after with a time of 1:09.92, grabbing her a state cut and 19th place.
To finish out the meet, the Rangers took 9th in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team, consisting of Maggie, Junior Ellie Field, Sarah, and Emily secured their state cut with the time of 3:43.52. This rounded out some very strong performances in a tough meet. The next meet in their season will be against Jenison at home. This is the Senior Night meet and will be the last meet of the season.
