Sophomore Theryn Hallock gave the Rangers the boost they needed, scoring 16 points on opening night to give the girls varsity basketball team a 54-47 win over Wyoming. This is a big win for the Lady Rangers, as they now have some confidence going into an important game against Rockford next week.
Theryn was helped by junior Zoe Lipke who scored 9 points and sophomore Julia Carlson who score 6. The defense also had a phenomenal game, holding an aggressive Wyoming team to under 50 points.
The first half was very back and forth between the two teams. The Rangers and the Wolves struggled to get going on offense at first, but later got comfortable and were able to execute their plays. Theryn got some big buckets towards the end of the half to end the first half with a score of 28-21 FHC.
The Lady Rangers started things out early in the second half with an 8-0 run. The team was clicking on all cylinders with lockdown defense and getting quality shots. FHC was able to extend its lead to 12 thanks to its lockdown defense. However, Wyoming came alive offensively and began to cut into the Ranger lead. FHC was eventually able to close out Wyoming and take the win 54-47.
This win puts FHC at 1-0 on the season with a strong road win. The Rangers now shift their focus to their home opener next Friday against the Rockford Rams. The Rams and FHC always put on a good battle, so the Rangers will need to bring their A game in order to pick up a win over Rockford.
