A huge rivalry win came from the boys varsity basketball team on Friday, as the boys took down the Forest Hills Northern Huskies 65-59. Both teams were undefeated in conference play coming into this matchup, and the boys knew this would be one of their biggest games of the season.

Senior Jimmy Scholler scored an astounding 29 points to put the Rangers over the Huskies. He knocked down four three-pointers and recorded eight assists to highlight his efforts on the offensive end. Other notable performances on offense came from senior Mitchell Wilkinson as he also scored in double-digits with 14 points and three assists. The boys took advantage whenever they were fouled; Jimmy was a perfect five-for-five at the free-throw line and Mitchell converted on five of his six attempted shots from the line. Junior Jonah Spates cleaned the glass as he was able to get three offensive rebounds.

The team thrived on defense as well, especially as Mitchell had seven of his eight rebounds on the defensive end—he also recorded the only block from the team in this game. Junior Chris Battiste also had four of his seven rebounds on defense. Jonah and Jimmy both played scrappily as they were each able to steal the ball twice from the Huskies.

The Rangers had started out the game by getting out to a 6-0 lead, but the Huskies quickly clawed their way back with a 15-2 run, ending the first quarter 15-8 in favor of FHN. The second quarter was relatively even as both teams traded buckets and went into the locker rooms at halftime with Northern still leading 29-24.

The third quarter, however, belonged to the Rangers; the boys scored seven points in about a minute and a half to even the game and then take the lead. The team led 43-41 going into the fourth quarter, and it outscored the Huskies 22-18 in the final eight minutes to end the game in a 65-59 Ranger victory.

With this win, the boys now move to 8-1 overall and stay undefeated at 5-0 in the conference. Their next game will be on the road against a 7-4 East Grand Rapids team on Tuesday, January 28th at 7:00 pm.
