Soccer has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I participated in a few other sports like gymnastics, track, and basketball, but it came to a point when I chose and stuck with soccer up until today. That decision was probably one of the best decisions I have made.
In the summer before first grade, I moved to Michigan. The move was quite devastating to me, considering I had to leave all of my friends, my school, and my house, but little did I know that by moving here, I would be exposed to wonderful people and opportunities, involving sports and other aspects of my life. After about two years, I tried out and played for a club team nearby; this was the start of my travel soccer career. In these times, I met some of my best friends and had some of the best coaches, in which they made me into the player I am today. I wouldn’t be where I am without that early development of soccer knowledge and skill, allowing me to work hard and to push myself to my best ability. I am so thankful that for all these years, my parents have taken the time and the money to allow me to play and travel all over the country. There would definitely be a hole in my life without soccer.
Soccer has provided me with so many great memories and more than a few friends that I have been close with for a very long time now. Being a part of a sport like this opens your life to so many pathways from traveling and meeting new people to allowing yourself to be in great shape. Playing soccer for as long as I have has helped to make me into the strong-willed person I am today, teaching me how to push through tough times. Soccer comes with good times, but also the bad, coinciding with the way of life. Even though there were heart-wrenching defeats, frustrating mistakes, and tough injuries, the game still found its way into my heart with the great laughs, amazing victories, and fun practices; I fight for those good times.
Imagining my life without soccer is a bland picture. I don’t know what I would do with my time if I didn’t play soccer. The sport keeps me on my toes and busy, using up the extra time I have. Yes, the schedule gets a bit stressful at times, but that is the life of an athlete.
