Coming back from one of the most unique offseasons in quite a while, the varsity field hockey team looked to have an appreciable opening to the season. The girls faced off against Dexter High School, but the Dreadnaughts were too much to handle as they went on to defeat Forest Hills 8-0.

Throughout the game, the team struggled to score and even get shots on net, but that did not stop the girls from keeping positive the whole game. They maintained good chemistry which will be vital in their upcoming games. Two players stood out in this game: junior Brooke Toigo (FHN) and sophomore Shannon Murphy (FHC). Their defensive efforts helped the team tremendously throughout the game.

A distinctive part of the game was that both teams had to wear masks. With Governor Whitmer’s latest executive order, all fall sports athletes (not including swim and dive) must wear masks in competition.

The team falls to 0-1 as they face the Rockford Rams next. They look to win their first game of the season at home against Rockford on September 9th.
