On Tuesday, the varsity volleyball team took on two opponents in their first tri-match of the season. First, they faced the West Ottawa Panthers, winning two of the three sets; in the second match of the night, they took on the Allendale Falcons, picking up a second win in only two sets.
As the Rangers commenced their game against the Panthers, they fell behind in the first set 25-21. However, they managed a very well-performed second set and crushed the Panthers 25-14. The third and final set came down to the last few plays, but the Rangers eventually pulled ahead and won 25-23. Junior Sophie Shields and sophomore Sarah Dunn both had a phenomenal defensive performance picking up 18 digs each. Sarah and Sophie both were very effective on the offensive side of this game as well, managing twelve kills between the two of them. Senior Morghan Tilton also had a stellar performance, setting her team up with 27 assists against the Panthers.
The Rangers headed into their second match against the Falcons coming off a big victory earlier and did not slow down. They defeated the Falcons in only two sets; winning the first 25-7, and the second 25-18. Sophie had another fantastic performance with seven kills of her own, along with two digs, and three successful serve-receives. Senior Katie Costello led the team with nine assists against the Falcons, with Morghan coming in close behind with eight assists of her own. Lastly, senior Tatum Otolski and junior Brooklyn Conner each had six kills against the Falcons.
With these two wins added to the Rangers record, they now sit with an overall record of 4-1 for their season. Their next game will be this Thursday, September 24 at 6:00 pm. The game will be played at home versus the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles. The Rangers have not played the Eagles in years past, but with them being a new addition to the OK White Conference, it will be a very intense game.
