The varsity volleyball team took on the East Grand Rapids Pioneers in the first round of the district tournament. With the end of their season at stake, the Rangers plowed through the Pioneers, winning in just three sets.

As the game commenced, it became apparent how dominant the Rangers were. They quickly took the lead and never let it slip as they went on to win the first set 25-7. The second set followed a similar suit, but the Pioneers put up a bit more of a fight; however, the Rangers persevered and won the second set with a score of 25-20. All the Rangers needed was one last win, and they would be moving onto the next round of districts; as the third set began, the Rangers came out firing. FHC went on to defeat the Pioneers in the final set with a score of 25-14.

Throughout the game, there were several players who had some phenomenal performances for the Rangers. Senior Morghan Tilton had a team-high of 28 assists, as well as leading the team in digs with 12. Junior Sophie Shields went on to have three aces last night, along with eight kills. Sophie and fellow junior Brooklyn Conner combined for 72% of the team’s kills on the offensive side of the game. Lastly, senior Julia Bouma led her team in aces with four, and she went on to have eight digs throughout the game.

After this district quarterfinal win, the Rangers will be moving onto the semis. They will take on the East Kentwood Falcons at 7:00 PM on November 4th. If the Rangers can pull off a win, they will continue onto the finals.
