Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Lowell

The previously undefeated Lowell Red Arrows were not prepared for the fight that FHC put up, handing Lowell their first conference loss. To start out the game, senior Emma Yoder and junior Claire Baguley were on fire and got the game going for the Rangers. Claire and Emma combined for 25 out of FHC’s 45 points scored by the team that night. Alongside was sophomore Ally Ringler who had four big points in the fourth quarter, giving the Rangers a well-deserved lead to finish out the game. The Red Arrows were no match for the Rangers and fell in the end 45-37.

“I thought that our team played one of the best games that we played this season overall,” said Emma. “It really was a team effort, and I think that we all pulled together and worked as a unit. It really was what we needed to build confidence and go out in the rest of our conference games and eventually go on a winning streak into districts.”

Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Godwin Heights

FHC was coming off a big win at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament against Spring Lake, and they looked to carry that momentum into a big-time showdown against Godwin. Godwin, at the time, was a top 10 ranked team in the state. The star players for the Rangers included sophomore Jimmy Scholler with 20 points and senior Ty George with 19 points. Ty also had an outstanding shot from almost half court to take the lead with 47 seconds left in regulation. Godwin was able to tie the game up to go into overtime, but the Rangers fought hard and outscored the Wolverines by 4 in overtime. FHC was able to capture a huge upset victory in front of a monster crowd at Cornerstone 72-68.

“We talked a lot [about the Godwin game] in the week leading up to it,” said head coach Ken George. “And we really weren’t playing that well at that point in the season, we had one really good game two days beforehand. But we talked about really believing that we could win, and I challenged them by saying “It’s not gonna happenai??i?? unless you truly believe that you can beat them. So I think that there was belief and I think our guys executed well.”

Varsity hockey vs. Grandville

The Ranger Hockey team had just achieved a 6-game winning mark and were starting to roll teams. Grandville, the previous number 2 ranked division 1 ranked team in the state, was dominating teams also. FHC struck first in the second period with none other than senior captain Jacob Demeter. Grandville, however, would take the lead midway through the third period and it became crunch time for FHC. Freshman Mason Kelly made a ginormous play late in the third to slip in a goal to tie the game at two. After that, the stage was set for overtime between the underdog Rangers and the previous top dog in Grandville. Just a minute into overtime, senior Charlie Brewer made the memory of a lifetime: scoring the game-winning goal on senior night to beat the previous #2 ranked team in the state. The Rangers took the game with a final score of 3-2.

“It was crazy,” said sophomore Peter Bardelli. “They’re one of the best teams that we’ve played all season and in the state. Especially to win on senior night against that good of a team, it was just incredible.”

Boys Swim and Dive vs. EGR

The undefeated Boys Swim and Dive team took on EGR; it was their biggest conference meet of the season. EGR was expected to make it far in the state tournament and maybe even win it, so the FHC Boys Swim and Dive team needed to bring their all to the meet that night. Each of the individual swimmers who swam came up huge for the Rangers. Senior captain Paul Jeong, sophomore CJ Hier, and senior Matt Wilson were huge in contributing to FHC’s success. Paul placed third in the 200-yard free relay, as CJ had an enormous night. He placed third in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard IM, 100-yard fly, and the 400-yard free relay. Matt placed second in the 200-yard medley and 100-yard breast. FHC would edge out EGR by a final score of 94-92.

Boys Soccer wins the OK white conference title

After starting their season 3-2-1 and losing to rival FHN in their 6th game of the season, the Boys Varsity Soccer team needed to get something going. That happened when FHC made an incredible turnaround, winning 12 of their last 14 games of the season. Senior Eric Conerty finished as the leading goal scorer for the Rangers with 36 goals and 10 assists. The Rangers showed they had improved when they had tied an extremely good FHN team in their 2nd meeting with the Huskies and then won all the rest of their conference games going forward. FHC plenty of situations to occur with other teams in order to win the conference. Losses from other conference opponents played a huge factor and the Rangers came out on top of the OK White.
