Staff Q&As: Dylan Wilson

Name: Dylan Wilson

Grade: 12

Position: Staff Writer

Semesters spent on TCT: 1

1. Why did you decide to join TCT?

“I have wanted to join the TCT Staff since the end of my sophomore year after I had Mr. George for Honors English 10. Because I decided to take AP Chemistry my junior year, TCT simply did not fit in my schedule. After experiencing an AP class during sixth hour my junior year, I did not want to repeat that for my senior year. This, combined with my friends being editors and [the class] fitting into my schedule, I was excited to sign up for TCT my senior year!”

2. How has TCT helped you grow as a writer and person?

“TCT has helped me immensely in my growth as a writer. I have learned so many grammar rules and things that I never paid attention to in all my previous years of writing. The atmosphere and the family that TCT creates combined with the student-run vibe really helps me to want to write good stories and continue to grow as a writer.”

3. If you were a type of cheese, what type of cheese would you be?

“I would probably have to say Colby Jack because I don’t like many kinds of cheese.”

4. What is your favorite thing about writing?

“I like to use writing as a way to express myself and share stories with people.”

5. What’s your funniest story of complications while working on a story?

“I haven’t written many stories yet, but the craziest thing to happen to me was when my interviewee for a profile I had due, who happened to be a teacher, canceled on me the day before my profile was due, and I had to annoy the editors by having them change my schedule around. Another thing was when I didn’t know how to save a story to pending (a setting on the back of the site the editors use to find stories that need to be published), and I was sitting there next to Courtney, and she was trying to edit my story, which was already late at this point, and I had messed up all the formatting stuff and the picture. I continued to mess it up like three times. It took me the whole hour to figure it out, but thankfully, I’ve figured it out now.”

6. Who’s your favorite literary character and why?

“I don’t know, but if I had to choose, I would probably say Harry Potter because I really liked these books when I was younger, even if I never finished the series.”

7. What is your favorite type of story to write and why?

“My favorite type of stories to write are reviews and profiles. I like reviews because I love to watch movies and shows. I like profiles because I love getting to meet new people and share their stories.”

8. What are your aspirations for the upcoming decade?

“It’s crazy to think that by the end of this decade I am going to be 28, so there’s just so much that can happen between now and then. My long term aspiration is to graduate medical school, but my short term aspiration is to learn how to use commas!”
