Sport: Crew
What does missing out on your Senior crew season mean to you?
“Missing out on my senior crew season means losing the opportunity to go to practice and row with my best friends every day. It feels like a little hole in my life, and it’s sad knowing that we seniors will be leaving our spring sports incomplete.”
What was your reaction when MHSAA announced the Spring sports season was canceled?
“I was devastated when I learned that spring sports were canceled, and it has by far been the hardest school-related thing to lose.”
What has crew meant to you throughout your high school career?
“Crew has been a huge part of my high school career, and it has given me some of my closest friends and best memories. Over the past four years, crew has helped me grow so much as a person. It has taught me the rewards of hard work and dedication. Through crew, I have learned how to break down mental barriers to physically push myself harder than I ever thought I could.”
What are you going to miss most about rowing for FHC?
“I am going to miss the synchronized chaos of being in a race where everybody is exhausted yet still somehow manages to pull strong, smooth strokes and keep every motion in time with the person in front of and behind them.”
What is your proudest accomplishment as a Ranger?
“I think my proudest accomplishment was getting third place in the women’s senior midweight 8 race at the Canadian Nationals (CSSRA) regatta. I also got second in the women’s lightweight category my sophomore and junior year at the GR indoor spring sprints event, which was pretty cool too.”
What would you say to underclassmen who still have time left playing for FHC?
“Enjoy the time you get with your teammates. Don’t get too caught up in being tired from early mornings or playing in bad weather because someday it will all turn to good memories.”
Is there anything you want to say to the FHC community?
“Thank you to all of the coaches and parents for pouring your hearts into everything you do for us kids. Thank you for your time and commitment to the team’s success and for your consistent love and support. Thank you to FHC teachers for caring about both our education and our lives outside of school. Your passion for what you teach inspires us to keep learning more. Finally, thank you to the class of 2020 for all of the memories throughout the time we’ve spent together.”
