Improv Central 2022 Q&As: Jake Barnes

Grade: 10

What excites you most about Improv Central?

“I’m excited that the public is going to pay to experience the team speaking the first or second thing to cross our mind for more than an hour. Everyone I work with has a talent that really shines through in some aspect of the show.”

Why should people watch Improv Central?

“Improv Central will provoke your deepest emotions and beliefs. You will find yourself pondering who you are, where you are, what you are doing, and how you are feeling in many cases throughout the following days. Improv Central will also inspire deeper passions within your heart. I left the show last year never believing I could do such a thing, but suddenly that’s exactly what I am doing. I do not understand the great power improv holds, but I will never question it.”

On a scale from 1-10 (10 being the extreme), how nervous are you for the show and why?

“Honestly, a complete 10 out of 10 until I remember that the gang has my back, and then it’s like a 5 out 10. However, 5 is pretty indecisive, and when I consider my supporters-to-haters ratio I would up that to 6 out of 10. Final answer.”

What’s your favorite memory of being on the team?

“It would have to be playing Big Booty at 10:30 before lights-out in Chicago. It proved to me how strong of a team we would be no matter our level of performance.”

What is a song that reminds you of the Improv team?

“‘Empire State of Mind’ – all the lyrics about the big city remind me of the time we went to this other big city called Chicago.”

If you could only live in one place for the rest of your life, where would it be?

“If I could bring people with me, I would choose someplace out in New England with the beach to the East and the mountains to the West. If I would have to leave my people in a location change, though, I’d never step foot out of Forest Hills.”

What’s an improv game you enjoy

“Armando – you get to learn all about the person who takes the lead and use their story as fuel for your creativity.”
