FHC’s Got Talent Q&As: Josie Butler
Grade: 11
Performance: “All I Ask” by Adele
Give an elevator pitch for your performance:
“Well, it’s a very strong ballad, and I have related to her a lot. So there’s a lot of emotion there, and I’d like to think that I’m pretty good at portraying that on stage, and it’s my passion.”
What specific qualities make your performance intriguing?
“Well, me and [junior] Lauren [Roth] have done this together for a few years now, since seventh grade, and so it’s kind of a tradition. And we did a win last year. So I mean, you know, if you want to come see what we’re all about.”
How does your performance reflect you as a person/group?
“We’re just very passionate people. We both love music. Lauren’s been playing piano since she was like two or three, and I’ve been singing since I was the same age. We come together and we make magic.”
Does stage fright impact you at all?
“Not really, because I’ve been performing. I’ve been on stage all my life, so it’s my favorite thing in the entire world.”
Why did you choose to try out for the talent show?
“We’ve been doing this for years, so that’s one. And also, performing is my safe place. So anywhere that I can find to do that, I’m there.”
How long have you been preparing for this?
“I’m gonna be honest, I know this song. I’ve listened to it in my own time, and I like it. I didn’t really need to practice that much. because I already had it memorized. I try to figure out different ways where I can make it my own, so it’s not exactly the same. So, I’ve been doing a little work, but I think since probably a month now.”
If you could have one pet, any pet, what would it be?
“A sloth because they’re low maintenance.”
