Student Council Q&A: Laura Salas

Name: Laura Salas

Grade: Junior

Running for: Secretary

1. Why are you running?

“I was on Student Council last year, and it’s really great to be able to make a difference and be involved in the class. It’s just a lot of fun, but mostly, we all do it just to help make an impact on the class.”

2. How do you believe you can help your grade?

“I think I can help get a lot of participation. I think all of us, or at least most of us on the Student Council, all come from different [groups] of people. I think one of the great things about that [is] we’re able to bring in a lot of new faces into Student Council, which is great. I think next year, especially since it’s our senior year, we’re all going to be able to make a lot of changes and bring a lot of people into class activities.”

3. What changes would you like to see in your grade?

“One of the main things I want to see is just more participation and unity. I think, just as every school tends to be, it is kind of cliquey, and we all have our own separate friend groups. Coming into this year as our last year, [we want] to be with each other and our friends. So more than anything, I hope that we can all become a class and get to know other people and get more involved.”

4. Do you have experience with Student Council?

“I do. Last year was my first year.”

5. What is the most gratifying part of being on Student Council?

“Definitely knowing that I’m able to help. It’s great being able to help plan lip sync, help make the float, and help pick all the themes for next year. It’s a lot of fun.”

6. Why should students vote for you?

“I think I can help make a big difference in the class.”
