Grade: 10

Role: Tituba

1. What part of being in the play makes you the most nervous?

“I feel the most nervous from being around such talented actors that seem to always know what they’re doing. It’s also very inspiring to be around these amazing thespians because one day I want to be as gracious and accomplished as them.”

2. What family member is traveling the farthest to see you in the play? How far? Why are they coming?

“My aunt and uncle and cousins are traveling the farthest. They live in Wyoming, Michigan, so not too far, but nonetheless it’s a ways away. They’re traveling so far to come see me perform which holds a lot of pressure on my shoulders to do my absolute best.”

3. How important is the crew to the success of the play?

“The crew are very important! They’re basically the glue holding the whole play together. Sure, as the cast we act and emphasize our emotions, but what good are a bunch of actors without a set, lighting, costumes, and etc.?”

4. How does Mrs. DeMeester get the best out of you and the entire cast?

“Mrs. DeMeester really brings the best out of us when she tells us the truth on how we’re doing and motivates us to reach our true potential. Sometimes, we forget that we were all chosen for a reason and how important all of our roles are, but she never does.”

5. How many lines do you have, and how long did it take you to memorize them?

“I have about 34 lines, including my monologue. It took me around a few days to learn my lines word for word, and now I basically eat, sleep, and breathe them.”

6. Are you nervous about forgetting a line?

“Yes, I’m slightly nervous about forgetting a line, but I’m more nervous about missing my blocking.”

7. What emotions do you think you’ll feel on opening night as the curtain opens?

“Opening night, I’m sure I will feel nervous and overall extremely grateful and joyful for how far I’ve come. I’ve wanted this for so long; it’s surreal that it’s actually happening.”
