Jannis Jacobs
1. What was your reaction to finding out?
“Oh geez, I was not expecting it at all; I was just sitting there. I was really hoping that [Victor] would make it, and I’m listening for Vic’s name, and all of a sudden, I hear my name, and it took a second to comprehend it. I was like, ‘what?’ It made me happy. Everyone around me cheered, and it was a good time.”
2. What does it mean to you to be nominated?
“Well, it really shows me the strength [of our] school. If I looked at myself six years ago, I would never have thought that I would have come to be on a school court for a dance, and all the people around me, all the supportive people, have helped me get to where I am now. I’m just so thankful for everyone around me.”
3. What is your favorite Winterfest tradition and why?
“I’d say the lip dub, like the personal one that each court member does. It’s fun. You get to do something in front of the class. It might be quite stressful though because we’re not given a whole lot of time, but you know, it’s still fun.”
4. If your dance was on Dancing with the Stars, how do you think you would fare?
“We’re going to win easily. We got Suchir Gupta down there, and I don’t think anyone can say no to Suchir.”
5. What color do you identify with and why?
“Off white. You know, we’re almost there, but it’s a little annoying because it’s not quite there. So, it’ll always be a little bothering.”
6. Can you make any campaign promises or tell why you would be the kingliest king?
“I mean, just look at me. Six two of all Kings. Every day over announcements, I’ll put a picture up of Suchir Gupta so everyone just has a good start to their day. You know, I might extradite Cole Kaminski because, I mean, big plus for all of us. No, love you, Cole. Don’t take it the wrong way. I’ll just make sure the school runs the right way and the kids get they deserve… which is Suchir Gupta.”
7. Is there anyone who wasn’t nominated that you want to recognize for their greatness?
“Oh my God, everybody is amazing. I could make an argument for anyone in this grade [to be nominated]. Some people I’d like to shout out though are John Courcy and Matt Henriksen—they’ve been friends with mine and I just loved them. Sam Werkema, he’s got to get on Court as well. That’d be great. I’d love that so much. Andy Travis. If Andy Travis does not get on Prom Court, I might have to riot. I’ll bring my pitchfork and stuff. We got to get Andy on there. I think Zuriel [Jansky] would be a great court member. We have a lot of fun, and honestly, like I said before, I could make an argument for anybody in this school. I mean, there’s so many amazing people, like they just keep in popping in my head, and I don’t have enough time. To finish it off, I’m going to say Advith Reddy as well because he’s helping me so much right now. He’s honestly an amazing guy.”
8. Do you have any closing statements?
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted, and I’d like to thank this grade as a whole. Honestly. You guys make the greatest things possible.”
