Improv Central 2022 Q&As: Payton Dailey

Grade: 12

What excites you most about Improv Central?

“These are some of my friends, and I love to play games and just have fun with them. A lot of practices I leave just crying because I’m laughing so hard. It’s a fun time, and it makes me say that other people get to witness what we’ve been working really hard on for all summer.”

Why should people watch Improv Central?

“Everyone should come and watch! I think you should come because it’s a great time. If you aren’t going, it’s a time that you could spend with your classmates, and honestly, it’s an hour of your time and super fun.”

On a scale from 1-10 (10 being the extreme), how nervous are you for the show and why?

“I’m not nervous at all—maybe like a 3 or 4. We’ve been practicing a lot, and at the end of the day, a lot of my teammates and everyone has my back. And so we’ve got each other handled.”

What’s your favorite memory of being on the team?

“I just love the people, but just like my three memories have just been like learning all these new games with all these people. I think it’s just been so fun to just be with them and have a fun time.”

What is a song that reminds you of the Improv team?

“‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ I feel like that’s the Improv Team because it just goes from rock to super slow, and this could be your first dance song. Like I just feel like it’s all over.”

If you could only live in one place for the rest of your life, where would it be?

“I’d probably live in Michigan. I don’t really like the snow, but I love my family. I like to be near them, so that’s probably what I would do.”

What’s an improv game you enjoy?

“It’s called Challenge. Everyone’s in a line and one person’s in the front, and you have to say, ‘On my pizza, I like to put cheese,” and then someone can challenge anything: some people are lactose intolerant. They can’t eat cheese. It kind of snowballs like that, until it’s like the stupidest little things. I think it’s fun. It’s very all-inclusive.”
