It’s a really great time. There’s a strong community, and I think that being able to really create the show from nothing is such an incredible and rewarding experience.

All my friends are in theater, and I really like acting.
What are you looking forward to most about this performance?
Performing actually important scenes with some of my closest friends. I’ve never had a scene where it’s just me and a close friend before, and now I do.
How do you relate to your character?
He loves knowledge. He has a yearning for knowledge that I can relate to.
Why would you recommend theater to other people?
It’s so fun. It’s very different than every other extracurricular that I’ve done because it forces you to be someone you’re not. Also, all my friends are in it, so if you like my friends, you’ll have fun.

I usually eat candy and drink strawberry lemonade. I always ask for it as a gift, so it’s always what I have right before the shows.
What is your favorite line in the show?
“The Devil is precise,” is my favorite. I also like, “Remember, until an hour before the Devil fell, God thought him beautiful in Heaven.” I also think it’s funny when Aiden [Verwolf] calls me Pontius Pilot.

I started doing theater during the musical in my freshman year, so it’s probably been about six months by now.

When I got into theater, I just knew that I was going to try to be in every production.
What are you looking forward to most about this performance?
This is such a hot take, but I really like Tech Days. I like getting to hang out with my friends all day and eating lunch and dinner together. I think it’s the best part of theater.
How do you relate to your character?
I scream a lot. Kristin [Hotaling] told me before I tried out that Betty screams a lot, and I’m really loud, so I knew I needed to try out.
Why would you recommend theater to other people?
I didn’t have any friends before the theater, and then when I did the musical, I was in the ensemble. Usually, you’re not as connected to people in an ensemble, but I gained so many friends, and now I have a huge friend group of people. Yeah, you might get bullied for being a theater kid, but at least you’re all getting bullied together.

I started last year in Peter Pan, so coming up around one year now.
Why did you try out for The Crucible?
A lot of my friends were doing it, and I’ve become friends with a lot of people in theater, so it was sort of an excuse to hang out with everyone, and I thought it would be fun.
What are you looking forward to most about this performance?
I like how it’s different than a lot of what FHC does. In the past, we’ve done mostly comedies as opposed to dramas, and this one is definitely a lot more dramatic, which I think will be a nice change.
How do you relate to your character?
Well, my character is a pregnant middle-aged woman, so not a lot. But she struggles with the idea of nobody really listening to you. Even people who should be your number one supporters often aren’t, and instead, you have to support them. While that’s important, it’s a lack of reciprocation, and it can be seen a lot in John and Elizabeth [Proctor].
Why would you recommend theater to other people?
It opens you up to a lot of connections that you never would have thought you could make. It takes you out of your comfort zone, and it helps you become a lot more confident and outgoing. Overall, it puts you in a place with some of the kindest people you will ever meet.
Do you have a pre-show ritual?
What I did before improv was listen to stand-up [comedy], which gets you used to having a live audience, but other than that, I don’t really have one.

“You’re pulling down Heaven, and you’re raising up a whore!”

I did a couple of shows here and there when I was a little kid for things like community theater and camp things, but I only started to getting serious about it at the beginning of high school as a freshman.
Why did you try out for The Crucible?
All of my friends were trying out, and I love theater.
What are you looking forward to most about this performance?
I’ve never been in such a serious show before, especially about such a cool subject. [The Crucible] is an allegory of the Red Scare, and I love history so I just think it’s super cool. Even though it takes some pretty extreme liberties with what actually happened in Salem, it’s still fun.
How do you relate to your character?
No one understands me like Mary does. I actually auditioned for Abigail first, but I was cast as Mary Warren and I’m so happy for that. She’s kind of annoying and hates a lot of people, but she also doesn’t know what side to choose. It’s hard to explain, but every time I step into her shoes, I can’t step out because she’s such an interesting character.
Why would you recommend theater to other people?
The community is such a great group of people. You make friends so eaily and you can just express yourself in ways that you might not be able to in sports or other things.

Yes, I eat Kinder Eggs.

There’s one monologue that starts, “I never knew it before. I never knew anything before.” I also like the line where I say, “You are like Devil’s man.”

I loved doing the musical, and I just thought The Crucible is a fun and super well-known play.

I’m really looking forward to the court scene. I love acting possessed with all my friends.
How do you relate to your character?
I relate to my character because she always does whatever Audrey (Abigail Williams) says. She also looks up to her, and I do both. I’m definitely a sheep. And I think I’m a little bit funny too.

It’s a great community-based extracurricular. You make a lot of friends, and you get in touch with your emotions.

I was talking to Paulie [Erickson], who said, “Oh, why don’t you do The Crucible, you’d make an excellent Puritan?” And I thought, “What the heck, you only live once.”
What are you looking forward to most about this performance?
I have an excellent costume. It’s very fun to wear.
How do you relate to your character?
God, I hope not at all. He’s very paranoid and anxious. Though he is also pretty angry, and I feel like I can have a short temper. Sometimes, I suppose I am a little paranoid or anxious, but not about my reputation in the town.
Why would you recommend theater to other people?
It’s a good time to spend with very talented people. You’re sort of in the company of greatness, and I would hope that by some sort of osmosis I can suck some of their greatness in, like a vampire.

Thomas Putnam is an evil, terrible guy, and I kind of like that. Some people call me the villain.

Why did you try out for The Crucible?
I’ve been doing the plays since sophmore year, but what really made me try out for The Crucible is that my sister was Abigail Williams six years ago when they did [this show] last. That’s what made me want to try out for this play and this character.
What are you looking forward to most about this performance?
Getting to talk to my family about it and seeing my sister’s reaction to everything I talk about. I also think [Abigail] is such a gritty character; she’s the most realistic character I’ve ever played, so it’s fun to go on the journey of playing her.
How do you relate to your character?
Hopefully not a lot. We’re the same age, though, which I think is interesting. I think I’m one of the only people in the cast who is the same age as their character. Something we have in common is that she believes so much that she’s right, and she finds out that she can twist the truth and make people believe her, she loves that power and the fact that people pay attention to her. [Abigail] just wants love and attention, and as an attention-seeking person myself, I can relate to that.
Why would you recommend theater to other people?
I’ve met so many people I would never have met otherwise. You get such an incredible experience. Whether you’re in the cast or crew, you get a community.
Do you have a pre-show ritual?
Yes. I have an Abigail playlist and a Crucible playlist that I listen to. I used to do something with Alex [Fletcher] and Toby [Cameron], but they’re gone now. Honestly, I sort of just shut off. Especially for this character, I find myself zoning out a lot right before I go on stage.

One thing my family always quotes is, “Shut it, Mary Warren,” which I yell at Micah. Which is such a throw-away quote, but it’s a fun tradition. My actual favorite quote is, “And God made men listen to me.”

I’m excited to see how the crowd reacts, because I’ve never experienced that before. I’m also really excited to see the bonds that I make with people in the cast and crew.

Dixie is an escaped convict from somewhere not near Salem. She actually murdered a man, and then came to Salem because it looked chill.

It’s such a tight community, and everyone gets along so well. You have to get out of your comfort zone and you learn so many new things.
