1. What was your reaction to finding out?
“I was quite shocked, to be honest with you. I absolutely did not think I would be on Winterfest Court; it was a surprise, for sure. With my class, when we heard the first couple of guys, we got very excited, so we only heard the last two girls get called. I had no idea I was on Court until Meredith VanSkiver [told me]. I saw her, and she [tackled me], and she was like ‘congratulations.’ I was like, ‘what are you talking about?’ It was very, very heartwarming.”
2. What does it mean to you to be nominated?
“It means a lot. It’s a very humbling feeling to know that your peers chose you, so it means a lot. I’m very flattered and very honored because I know amazing people in this grade, so it’s cool.”
3. What is your favorite Winterfest tradition and why?
“Window painting. I love the window painting. I think, first of all, it’s a great way to be creative, and it’s beautiful. I love the window painting; that’s my favorite. I did it last year, and last year was so fun because there were only two people doing the window painting, and I was one of them, and we got first place.”
4. If your dance was on Dancing with the Stars, how do you think you would fare?
“I think we’d be amazing. I’ve never seen Dancing with the Stars, so I don’t know how it works, but I think we’d win.”
5. What color do you identify with and why?
“Yellow because whenever I see yellow it just reminds me of joy and happiness and sunshine. I think it’s a very positive color, and I always try to be a very positive person. My only goal in life is to just bring some form of joy and happiness to others, and that’s what yellow reminds me of. “
6. Can you make any campaign promises or tell why you would be the queenliest queen?
“I can’t make any big promises, but I can promise that I will bring in a lot of baked goods—I already do that. I’ll bring in more.”
7. Is there anyone who wasn’t nominated that you want to recognize for their greatness?
“Andy Travis. He is an absolute ray of sunshine. Every day I see him in the hallway, he gives me the biggest smile, and it makes my day one-hundred-times better. He always makes an effort to be kind to everyone he talks to, and he’s so intelligent, talented, and sweet. Just being around him inspires you to be better.”
8. Do you have any closing statements?
“Just, thank you. It’s kind of ridiculous, and I don’t think it’s really set in that people had to choose me to do this, which is so weird. I hope that I can be someone that deserves it.”
