Starbucks, the coffee shop sensation, is everywhere. Starbucks has become an integral part of many people’s lives, somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this coffee consumption, the prices at Starbucks are more than enough to raise an eyebrow. When Starbucks becomes an everyday expense, it’s hard to justify spending around seven dollars on a drink.
However, this cost doesn’t have to stop you from indulging in a sweet treat. To avoid this overpriced rabbit hole, there are many more budget-friendly alternatives to Starbucks.
Biggby Coffee
Biggby has long been forgotten, constantly getting overshadowed by Starbucks. However, I couldn’t find a reason as to why Starbucks deserved so much more hype than Biggby. Biggby offers not only similar options but more options than Starbucks, and at a lower price.
Biggby offers lower starting prices on brewed coffee ($1.99) and larger drink sizes up to 32 ounces. An overall comparison of Starbucks and Biggby shows that Biggby offers better value per ounce and better overall deals. Unlike Starbucks, Biggby offers strong deals, such as happy hours and 50% off on Tuesdays.
In addition to being a cost-effective alternative to Starbucks, I believe Biggby offers better drink options. Biggby has an extensive energy drink menu, offering 13 unique flavors. Each drink is incredibly refreshing and offers a variety of flavors, with the option to add boba depending on the flavor.
At Home Alternatives
While the convenience of pre-made Starbucks is enticing, the cost of this benefit far outweighs the benefit. Instead of driving to get this coffee, you can make it right at home. Some may argue that home-brewed coffee isn’t the same as Starbucks; however, Starbucks offers its own line of at-home coffee options. Starbucks offers coffee beans, cold brew drinks, creamers, and refresher options of their best-selling drinks. By purchasing these drinks in bulk, consumers can save money and time. A Starbucks iced black cold brew bottle with six servings goes for $10.12 on Amazon. This means each serving costs around $1.69 compared to the $4.45 grande (medium) cost offered in-store.
Energy drinks
Most people drink Starbucks signature coffee for its energy benefits. However, that same benefit can still be achieved at a lower cost. Instead of an everyday trip to Starbucks, one can purchase energy drinks in bulk from places such as Costco or Target. Since these drinks aren’t coffee, they’re not a perfect substitute for Starbucks, but they’re a nice alternative when you want to change up your routine and save money. Energy drinks are not a healthier choice and should be consumed in moderation. But choosing one over an expensive Starbucks drink is almost always a nice choice.
Starbucks is great for a sweet treat, but maybe not for your wallet. Don’t let yourself be convinced it’s your only choice for energy or a little sugar; there’s always an alternative. Whether you choose Biggby, energy drinks, or at-home choices, saving a little money always feels good.
