The full swing on spring fashion: here’s what’s in

Pithers, 2021

“Pinks, yellows, oranges, and a range of greens with nude as a neutral backdrop, of course, are this season’s palette.”

April showers bring May flowersbut let’s not forget the new fashion trends brought in this spring. Spring fashion is a key determinant in what summer wear will look like. Put the puffers and booties away, let’s check out what this season has to offer.

Head scarves:

Head scarves have honestly been trending for around a year now, so this style isn’t necessarily new. In Michigan however, the weather changes, and trends go in and out with it. The headscarf may have been in last summer, but now it’s back, and I don’t think it’s going anywhere. The head scarf is a statement accessory when looking to complete an outfit. A simple white top with jeans can be spiced up in a matter of seconds with the addition of a patterned scarf. Plus, this accessory aids in getting ready in a rushno need for hairstyling, just throw in a scarf!

Pastel tones:

Pastel tones of clothing and bags are in this season, and let me just say, I am obsessed. The sorbet pastel tones are so versatile from a stylistic standpoint. Perhaps a more minimal, neutral look is desired: wear nude, basic staples and add in a pastel tone as added color for brightness. Looking for a more bold look? Throw in a couple complementary pastel tones such as green and powder blue with teal and make a statement. This trend is everything and it looks phenomenal on a wide range of skin tones.

Puff sleeves:

Puff sleeves are making their way onto blouses and dresses alike. They are adorable, playful, and universally flattering when designed properly and proportionately. Puff sleeve pitfalls to avoid are those that are too short or too long, but this new look might just be the gateway to the return of shoulder padsyou heard it here first.

Sheer cover-ups:

Sheer cover-ups, ranging from dresses to pants are the latest beach craze and anything that screams beach time gets a thumbs up from me. With only three months of swimsuit weather, we might as well show them off.

Wrap around straps:

Wrap around straps are cute but definitely a temporary look. I doubt we will be seeing this for more than a year or two. Similar to the “cold shoulder” look, I think the wrap around strap will become dated quickly. However, unlike the whole cold-shoulder thing, this look is actually cute.

Wide leg pants

Wide leg pants can be a love or hate, especially for shorter girls. When designed properly, anyone should be able to wear the wide leg pant; here’s my shopping tips for this look.

Look for a substantial waist band if the pant is wide from the top down.

Look for a lower flare if it is cut slim at the top and has a gradual flare.

Keep it mind that designers tend to make wide leg pants on the longer side.

Often, the full, wide leg look looks the best with flat sandals.

Don’t be tempted to hem the pants, beware, it’s easy to make them too boxy and ruin their shape.

Crochet

Timeless fashion at it’s finest—crochet is stylish, retro, and feminine; it’s a nod to the seventies. The fun thing about crochet is it doesn’t get a true modern update, so a piece from the seventies will look incredibly similar to one designed today. Sweaters, ponchos, dresses and even purses or handbagsdig through mom’s or grandma’s old wardrobes, wear their old crochet, and it’ll be every bit as stylish today as it once was.

The colors of spring are back in full bloom, and spring fashion has definitely been inspired by Mother Nature. Pinks, yellows, oranges, and a range of greens with nude as a neutral backdrop, of course, are this season’s palette. No matter the skin tone or body type, this season has plenty to offer that should make the wearer feel as sunny and hopeful as the weather.
