Land of Bad proves itself to be a must-watch movie despite being underrated.
I would recommend Land of Bad to anyone who enjoys a thriller, military, action, or just straight-up interesting movie. I had never heard that this movie was coming out or where to watch it until I was Googling for movies to watch. Land of Bad was not advertised and promoted as much as it should have been, but after deciding to watch the trailer, I didn’t even get halfway through before I knew I had to watch it.
Many intriguing and captivating elements played into my infatuation with this movie. The intense action and jungle setting are stereotypical of a modern warfare or action movie, but Land of Bad kept my attention for every second. I love any sort of military movie, like Top Gun or American Sniper, and this movie was just as pleasant, entertaining, and captivating.
It had likable main characters, including Sgt Abel (Luke Hemsworth), Master Sgt. John ‘Sugar’ Sweet (Milo Ventimiglia), Sgt. Bishop (Ricky Whittle), Staff Sgt. Nia Branson (Chika Ikogwe), Capt. Eddie Grimm ‘Reaper’ (Russell Crowe), and, of course, Sgt. JJ Kinney (Liam Hemsworth). The casting of this movie is impeccable and perfectly done. The chemistry between the cast members made for convincing and natural interactions throughout the entire movie. All of the actors did a stellar job of helping tell the excellently crafted story.
Land of Bad is about a United States special forces unit that is sent to the Philippines to retrieve a CIA agent who is being held captive. Before they even get to him, Abel, Sugar, Bishop, and Kinney are ambushed while in enemy territory. Only Kinney makes it out and relies on Reaper and Branson, who are his eyes in the sky, to guide him through the dangers of the Philippines as well as keep him away and protected from the enemy for the highest chance of survival.
The plot and script form together to create one of the best movies I’ve seen this year so far. The writers took a very basic idea and made Land of Bad a very entertaining and enjoyable movie. Being a movie about modern warfare and violence, there are some gory, violent, and intense scenes. The special effects were all convincing and the jungle scenery was beautiful. The many explosions were realistic, dramatic, and well-made. The gore and violence were graphic and gross but were excellent parts of the action and thriller movie.
Land of Bad is an excellent addition to the world of film and is very underrated for how good it is. The publicizing of this movie was severely lacking. I feel that if it had been promoted and advertised more, it could have been a hit movie and become more popular than it is. Liam Hemsworth and the rest of the cast and crew did an amazing job creating this movie and I will be watching it again at some point in the future.
Land of Bad is a fabulous modern warfare survival thriller that I would recommend to anyone who can appreciate a good action movie.
