If you are looking for a movie that will have you laughing till you can’t breathe one moment to crying the next, then to panic, then to relief, then back to panic, I have the movie for you. Kinda Pregnant is out on Netflix as of February 5, 2025, starring Amy Schumer. The movie is considered a Rom Com, which means it explores themes of love, comedy, and more. The title might sound strange, but don’t judge a book by its cover and give the movie a try.
The movie was interesting to say the least. The plot was strange, but if you pay attention, the deeper meaning is sweet. It is about a woman who has always wanted a family, but she has nobody to have a family with. Her best friend announces that she is pregnant, and the main character, Lainy, becomes jealous. Lainy then impulsively decides to fake her pregnancy, and pretends to know and go through the struggles of a pregnant woman. She then meets a woman named Megan who is actually pregnant, and they become very good friends, but their friendship is based on Lainy’s lie. Will Lainy be able to go through with this huge lie, or will it eventually backfire on her?
Some people described this movie as “atrocious,” but I think it’s the way you view the point of the movie. The message is there, but it is hard to find when so many of the scenes are quite ridiculous and unserious. The message that it portrays is about family, and sometimes the family you find is not by blood, but by heart. It is a blessing if you manage to find those people you can call family, and it is even luckier if you can create and protect a family that you have actually made. Another message would be to be happy for others, and to not act out of jealousy or desire.
This movie, strangely enough, has a good amount of different emotions. It has scenes where it feels heartwarming, it has scenes to laugh at, and it even has scenes to cry at and help the audience relate to some sort of theme. It has themes of love and betrayal, and shows what jealousy can do to a person. The movie also shows growing friendships and relationships, and the ups and downs of them. Mainly this movie made me, as well as my friends, laugh. Some of it was because it was genuinely funny, and some of the laughter came from the fact that some scenes were so unserious it became humorous.
Overall this movie has a strange plot, but it had me laughing, and somehow also got me crying. Although you might not be faking a pregnancy, this movie still has relatable moments for its audience. Kinda Pregnant shows that sometimes the wants and needs of a person are enough to persuade them to do outrageous things, but being the bigger person within yourself is what matters. So go grab some popcorn, a few friends, and sit down to watch this rollercoaster of a movie.
