I can’t imagine life without some noise at home. Being in an empty, silent house is truly the worst. Luckily for me, it is never entirely empty. When I get home from school, my dogs are waiting for me. They run, bark, and sometimes annoy me, but I would not trade them for the world. Then I go up to my room and see my cat lying on my bed, occupying it for me all day while I’m away. Without my pets, I would be a completely different person.
Lucy is what most people would call a crusty white dog. Really, she is a daisy dog. In my eyes, she is not crusty at all; she is the cutest thing ever. She is also one of the laziest dogs I know. Her white fur and tiny legs are one of the first things I see when I get home. Although Lucy is not a big, almighty dog, her personality sure is. Lucy really saved my family, because the reason we got her is dark. I had a childhood dog, Charlotte. Charlotte was the best first dog I could have asked for. After she died, my family was lost. I didn’t know what it was like not having a dog in the house, because Charlotte had always been there. After about one year, we found Lucy. I’m so glad we chose her, because I don’t know where I’d be without my little, crusty white dog.
Luna is our Bernedoodle, who is slightly younger than Lucy. I never thought we would be the type of family to have two dogs at a time, but I am so glad we are. We call Luna a COVID puppy, because we got her at the peak or beginning of the pandemic. With Luna and Lucy in the house during quarantine, there was never really a dull moment. When I was lost, Luna’s big, warm eyes filled me with hope. Now I get to see her when I get home from school; she gets so excited and runs and jumps around. On the weekends, I love taking her on walks with me because she makes it so much more interesting. Whenever I go while the night is setting in, Luna makes me feel safe. Her big, comfortable presence can come across as scary and mean to other people, which is exactly why she makes me feel safe when I’m alone.
Last but not least, there’s Ruby. I’ve had Ruby for about twelve or thirteen years now, so I don’t remember a life without her. I fully believe Ruby is the best cat to ever exist. She always knows when I’m sad, and she always knows when I need her comfort. She can fix one bad day by simply cuddling up with me and purring. It’s amazing to know that an animal can love me that much. Ruby truly proves the saying that love is in actions, not words, because Ruby has never spoken a word to me all my life. Although she might not speak words, she definitely makes noise. Her meow is adorable yet insanely demanding. She meows when she wants in and out of my room, when she wants water, and when she wants attention and love. Ruby has definitely made me question whether I’m a dog or cat person. If someone asked me that question, I really wouldn’t know what to say.
Lucy, Luna, and Ruby have made my life so much better. Especially since my sister moved out and having my brother move out this year. I really would not survive without my pets. They fill the silence in the house when my family doesn’t. Having animals is a blessing, whether it’s a dog, a cat, a bunny, a bird, a reptile, etc. Because at the end of the day, nothing will love you quite like your animals do.

I loved reading about Zoe’s pets and her love for them. I live alone and reading Zoe’s article makes me want for the pet love she described. Zoe is a true animal lover and has been. It truly shows in her words and actions.
I see so much potential in Zoe ‘s writing.
PS: Ruby does speak to her
