There’s one night of the year in which anyone can dress up as anything: Halloween. People go with friends, people do couple costumes, etc. There are so many options for costumes that it can be hard to choose, and it can be hard to find good ones. It seems the same costumes trend each year, but it’s the people wearing them that make it different. With this year’s Halloween landing on a Friday, teenagers have the entire weekend to truly celebrate. This holiday is when people’s creative sides come out, and the night is filled with fun, celebration, and carefree teenagers.
Junior Jenna Stibitz already has her plans put together for Halloween this year. She has spent time thinking and collaborating about what she wants to be for Halloween. The same process is undergone every year, and the same type of stress comes with it every year.
Jenna is doing a couple’s costume based on the television entertainment series, Curious George. She got her idea simply by scrolling on Pinterest until she found the perfect costume to wear on Halloween night.
“I chose this costume because it will be fairly easy to put together, and it seemed fun,” Jenna said. “I am excited to dress up this year and make my outfit.”
More specifically, Jenna will be dressing up as the monkey, while her boyfriend will be dressed as the man in the yellow hat. Another common couple costume is the hunter and the deer, which Jenna also considered.
As Halloween approaches, it really sneaks up quickly. Jenna thinks it is important to be prepared early. The best way to do this is through time management, which is especially important this year.
“Get costumes early this year for sure,” Jenna said. “Order things early to make sure you like it, and that it fits, instead of scrambling at the last minute and ending up with something you don’t want.”
Junior Emma Krivickas knows what she wants to do for Halloween this year. She and her friends planned things extra early this year to avoid any possible chaos.
Her costume this year is a group costume with four of her friends. They are going as something based on the show Strawberry Shortcake. Emma is going as Lemon Meringue, specifically because her blonde hair matches the character.
“I am wearing a light yellow top, with blue and white gingham-patterned shorts,” Emma said. “I will also have green bows in my hair, and knee-length yellow and white striped socks to complete the outfit.”
Emma and her friends are ready for their costumes this year. She is excited because she has everything planned out this year, and she gets to do fun things with her friends on Halloween.
Creativity is key when it comes to having the best Halloween costume. So many different things trend and become popular, but to Emma, the thing that matters the most is that she likes her costume and who she is doing it with.
“When picking a Halloween costume, choose something that shows off your personality and makes you feel confident,” Emma said. “Don’t worry so much about what’s trending.”
Senior Addy Quinn has been preparing her Halloween festivities for this fall. She is doing two costumes this year, one with her friends and one couples costume.
She and her friends are going as characters in the Wizard of Oz, and Addy is dressing up as the lion. Her couple’s costume is also a character from Curious George, which is clearly a popular costume this year.
“For my lion outfit, I got lion ears and paws, and I’m wearing a lion shirt with a black skirt,” Addy said. “For my monkey costume, I’m wearing monkey ears with a brown top and brown skirt.”
For this upcoming holiday, there will be many of the same costumes seen and worn, so Addy thinks it is important to try to find something that is different, but she struggles with that because she also likes the stuff that is trending. There is a reason that things become popular; it is because they are cute.
Addy believes the most important part of Halloween is the quality of your costume and outfit, so it is vital for people to choose things that they like, and to try not to be influenced too much by what others are doing.
“I would advise someone to wear a costume they truly want to wear,” Addy said. “Halloween only comes around once a year, and you can never wear the same costume twice.”
