Since Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, was released, I began drifting away from being a “Swiftie.” I didn’t enjoy the album, and for some unknown reason, listening to it made me stop obsessing over Swift. I still listened to some of her music, but I stopped following every single thing that she did. That is when the Taylor Swift: The End of an Era docuseries was announced.
I was immediately intrigued; fans have been speculating about Swift creating a documentary about The Eras Tour for years, and they were right. However, I wasn’t aware of how emotional this docuseries would be.
As I watched the first minutes of the first episode, “Welcome To The Eras Tour,” I was immediately engulfed with emotion. Celebrities don’t always feel like real people; in fact, in the first episode, a fan outside one of Swift’s concert venues states, “[I’m excited for] just seeing her face… It’s like she’s not a real person.” This first episode shows how truly real a person Swift is.
The episode opened with Swift giving a speech to her entire crew before their very last show. Of course, everyone was crying, and I could feel their emotions through the screen. Their true emotions don’t just stop after this moment; the entire episode and whole series shows raw emotion. It talks about the canceled shows in Vienna because of a terrorist plot, and then leads into the attack on a Swift-themed dance class and how three children lost their lives in this attack. It shows Swift working through these emotions, and shows how she had to suppress her emotions during the show in London following these attacks. This episode showed her raw emotions, and it was very interesting and heartbreaking to watch.
This entire docuseries shows how much Swift cares for others. The second episode, “Magic in the Eras,” shows Swift writing handwritten notes to everyone on the crew and giving every single one of them financial bonuses. One of Swift’s backup dancers, Kameron Saunders, then opens the note and reads the amount of money that each crew member is getting. As they heard the amount, every member of the crew burst into tears.
This docuseries follows Swift’s entire journey, not just throughout the tour, but throughout her whole life. It shows how far she has come, and also follows how far her entire dance crew has come. Even if someone isn’t a big fan of Swift’s music, I would still highly recommend this docuseries. It shows how genuine a person she can be, and it shows so much about her life and the rest of her crew’s lives.
Taylor Swift: The End of an Era is a wonderful docuseries that beautifully represents the behind-the-scenes of the tour. It shows how truly kind Swift is and how loving and welcoming the atmosphere of the tour was. It is genuinely a beautiful and emotional docuseries.
