Girls varsity basketball district semi final preview: EGR Pioneers
Coming off of six straight wins to end their regular season at 14-6, the Lady Rangers head into tonight’s district semifinal game on a hot streak. FHC had a bye for the first district game and will now play East Grand Rapids on their home court, as the Pioneers defeated Greenville Monday night.
FHC and EGR squared off once this season and the Pioneers were victorious 48-36. In the first half of that game, the Lady Rangers were playing exceptionally on both ends of the ball and working very cohesively to lead by 4 going into the half. A very flat and sloppy third quarter from the Lady Rangers is what sealed the game last time, as the Rangers were not able to recover from the 11 point deficit after the third quarter.
Tonight, the Lady Rangers have to play with intensity all four quarters in order to pull off a victory. Unfortunately, injuries continue to be a problem for this Lady Rangers team and there are multiple players who are questionable for tonight’s game. Usual scoring leaders like seniors Emma Yoder and Madi Winter will have to play at their best in addition to all other players stepping up in the first game of the postseason. If the Rangers can play as a cohesive unit, look for an FHC victory over the 18-3 Pioneers.
