Taylor Swift’s City Of Lover performance blew people away even though it was online
Growing up, I feel like we all had that one singer that we listened to profusely. The one that we had playing as we danced around the living room or that was on in the background at our birthday parties. For me, that singer has always been Taylor Swift. Ever since my parents surprised my sister and I with tickets to one of her first concerts, my family has been hooked.
Every time she comes out with a new album, we always go to her concerts. Each time it’s an awe-inspiring experience, and I am eager to go back. Now, with all that’s happened in our world, we may never be able to see her perform her latest album live.
Although I am disappointed by this fact, she finds a way to reach out to her fans in the time we need it most. Taylor was able to do this by sharing her concert in Paris with the entire world through ABC, then later on Disney Plus.
It might not be the same as watching it in person, but the forty minutes of concert footage was still a wondrous gesture made by Taylor in order to give fans something to hold on to until the world is concert-ready once more.
She started the performance by singing the infamous song “ME!” Her presence on stage is nothing short of pure power mixed with some enthusiasm. Her voice is as smooth as silk, but her words are as strong as stone, each one punching you in the face as if to say you can be powerful, too.
After her outstanding opening number, she then continued to explain that when she writes her songs she always starts out by playing them on one instrument while singing. She says she either writes it on the guitar or the piano, and then, after ardent hours of perfecting the song, it turns into what we hear on the radio everyday.
This genuine talk with the thousands of people in the audience leads to her singing a few of her songs acoustically. This is one of many ways she is able to connect with each and every person in the audience as if he or she is having a one on one conversation with her, keeping the mood fun and giving little bits and pieces of her real life.
By doing this, she is saying to the whole world “See, I am not perfect; I have to work for the things I have, and if you work hard enough, you can achieve great things, too.”
This message, although simple, is one that has always seemed persistent throughout Taylor’s career because she wants to inspire people.
Song after song, album after album, Taylor has proven to the world that she deserves her title, and this online concert was no exception.
